Carpathian
folk culture in the face of modern times.
The Carpathian Mountains are a region
with a rich folklore, which combines the influences of the cultures
of various nations and ethnic groups. They have become a source from
which the cultures of Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia and other countries
derive their identity, therefore the Carpathians constitute a common
transnational heritage.
On the other hand, the inhabitants of the
Carpathian region have created their own culture, much different from
those specific for the plains, and moreover, different from the
standardised culture of the period of globalisation . How can one
define Carpathian folk culture? What meaning does it have for the
various national cultures? What were the relations between the
influences of individual ethnicities and the true “Carpathian
spirit”? Is that spirit able to resist the globalisation and
commercialisation of folk culture? This is just one of many
questions that trouble the representatives of various academic
disciplines and inspire further research into the phenomenon of the
Carpathian Mountains.
Main subject areas of the conference:
- The Carpathians as a place of coexistence of different nations and ethnic groups;
- The spiritual and material culture of the Carpathians inhabitants;
- Folk culture as a inspiration for the art and literature of Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine;
